Shane Warne's family 'shattered' by his death and kids in 'complete shock'

The family of late cricket star Shane Warne have been left 'shattered' and feeling like they are trapped in a 'bad dream' following his shock death.

The sport star passed away following a suspected heart attack while in Thailand on Friday and was just 52-years-old.

Shane's long-time manager, James Erskine, has provided an update on the cricketer's family and says they have been devastated by their loss.

Shane was married to 52-year-old model Simone Callahan from 1995 to 2005 and together they had three children; 23-year-old son Jackson and daughters Brooke, 24, and Summer, 20.

James told the Nine Network's Today morning show in Australia on Sunday: "The three children are in a complete shock.

"I spoke to them yesterday and ... Jackson just said, 'We expect him to walk in the door. This is like a bad dream'."

He added: "Keith, Shane's father, is a pretty strong individual, but like everybody, he's just shattered, they can't believe what's happened."

Shane's son, Jackson, has previously expressed how 'lucky' he felt having the cricket star as a father (FILE)

Shane's son Jackson had recently discussed their relationship in an interview with Men's Health, saying he was 'lucky' to be the son of the sports star.

He explained: "I only see Dad as Dad. I can't compare him to other parents.

"I can always remember just smiling. So, I think he did a great job. And I'm proud of him.

"For me, all I had to do to switch that mindset was to realise that I didn't choose who my dad was, and what he did was bloody awesome."

Tributes have been paid by those closest to Shane since the shock news of his death was announced.

Former fiancée, Elizabeth Hurley, who dated the sportsman between 2011 and 2013, was among those expressing their heartache.

The 56-year-old shared a collection of photos of Shane on her Instagram page and wrote: "I feel like the sun has gone behind a cloud forever.

"RIP my beloved Lionheart."

Meanwhile, Elizabeth's 19-year-old son, Damian, also paid tribute to Shane, sharing further photos of him on Instagram.

The teenager wrote: "I'm still trying to wrap my head around this....

"SW was a father figure to me for most of my formative years and was truly one of the best men I've ever know.

"My heart is broken. Thinking of and sending love to all SW's family."

Meanwhile, Shane's family are facing a 'red tape nightmare' to get his body flown back to Australia from Thailand, where he had been on a holiday with friends on the island of Koh Samui.

Thai police insist that an autopsy must be carried out to determine the cause of death before he can be returned home.

Shane's friend, Andrew Neophitou – who battled for 20 minutes to try and save Shane's life when he found his body on Friday – has expressed the family's urgency to have the late star's body returned home.

He said on Saturday: "We just really want to get Shane home."

While Thai police lieutenant-colonel Chatchawin Nakmusik told The Guardian: "I am waiting for the autopsy report. If there is nothing suspicious, then the case is closed. The family will be responsible to take the body back to their home country.”
