Shane McMahon’s surprising return to the WWE stunned fans around the world during Night 2 of WrestleMania 39 on Sunday night. But, unfortunately, his unexpected appearance ended up being unexpectedly cut short due to an in-ring accident during his segment with The Miz and Snoop Dogg.

McMahon, in his first WWE appearance in 14 months, sustained a torn quad while facing The Miz in an impromptu match, WWE COO Paul “Triple H” Levesque announced after the show. The 53-year-old fell to the mat after his left leg buckled following a leapfrog minutes into the contest, prompting the WWE’s medical team to tend to him for a few moments before assisting him to the backstage area.

Before his abrupt exit, McMahon received a roaring applause from the crowd inside SoFi Stadium after swaggering onto the ‘Mania stage to his signature “Here Comes The Money” theme music. The appearance marked McMahon’s first since he was let go from WWE in Feb. 2022 due to controversy regarding the Royal Rumble.

The prelude to McMahon’s return saw WM39 hosts The Miz and Snoop Dogg get into a heated back-and-forth, which ended with the legendary entertainer bringing out McMahon for a match with the “Awesome One.” Despite the real-life injury that sidelined McMahon, the segment was saved by a memorable audible from Snoop, who knocked The Miz out in Shane-O-Mac’s defense before hilariously hitting him with The Rock’s “People’s Elbow” for the pinfall victory.
