Shane MacGowan thanks "brother" Johnny Depp for flying into Ireland to celebrate his new documentary

Hollywood A-lister Johnny Depp flew into Ireland for the weekend to attend a party with pals Shane MacGowan and Robert Sheehan.

The Pogues frontman celebrated his new documentary 'A Crock of Gold: A Few Rounds with Shane MacGowan' with a party in the Light House Cinema in Smithfield.

The film, made by Julien Temple, dives into the life of MacGowan, best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the Pogues, who famously combined traditional Irish music with the energy of punk rock.

The documentary features unseen archival footage from the band and his family, while Pirate of the Caribbean star Depp, former Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, and Bono all feature in the documentary.

Speaking yesterday (SUN), the Dubliner thanked his “brother” Depp for making it to the event.

Captioning a series of pictures, the 64-year-old said: “Thank you brother for making the journey to Dublin to see me and Victoria, we needed a night out!

“Love you and come again very soon”,” he wrote.

MacGowan’s wife Victoria shared pictures over the weekend on her social media.

“Lovely party for @crockofgoldfilm! Thank you so much everyone,” she said, tagging various party goers including designer Margaret O’Connor, musicians The Mary Wallopers and filmmaker Julien Temple.

Taking to Instagram, MacGowan also shared snaps with former Love/Hate star Robert Sheehan.

“With Robert Sheehan (@rozzymikes) at the @crockofgoldfilm party last night,” she said.

MacGowan’s new book, The Eternal Buzz and the Crock of Gold which is set to be released in April, will have a limited print of 1,000 copies.

Each copy comes with a £5,000 price tag which includes a handwritten note from the Fairytale of New York star and a certificate of ownership.

The book is filled with art, photography and unpublished writings all curated by the singer.
