Shane MacGowan’s wife has revealed her husband is back in hospital but hopes he’ll be back home this week.
Writer Victoria Mary Clarke said that The Pogues frontman is finding it “frustrating” and said he wants to get out.
She told us that the Fairytale of New York singer was admitted to hospital last Friday.
Speaking to The Irish Mirror, Victoria said: “I’m definitely hoping he gets out this week.
“He’s a bit frustrated, I think. He finds it very frustrating… he wants to get out.”
When asked if he was doing okay, the 56-year-old told us: “I think he is, yeah.” and later added: “Please don’t get too worried. I’m sure he’ll be fine.”
The pair have been married since 2018, but they have been together for decades after meeting in a pub near Golders Green in London when Victoria was 17.
She also took to Twitter and urged people to “send prayers and healing vibes” but it remains unclear why MacGowan was admitted to hospital.
The Irish singer, 64, who spent nine years as the lead singer and songwriter for the iconic Pogues, broke his pelvis in a fall in 2015 and has had increasing mobility issues ever since.
He initially continued to perform after leaving the band in 1991 but has struggled since the fall.
The Pogues regrouped purely as a touring act between 2001 and 2014.
Since the fall, MacGowan has made a handful of public appearances in a wheelchair.
The singer, who has had trouble with alcohol and drugs, lost all his teeth but received new implants in 2015.
MacGowan began drinking at the age of five when his family gave him two bottles of stout to help him sleep, and his dad frequently took him to the local pub while he drank with his friends.
His first spell in rehab was when he was just 17-years-old, after he became addicted to valium.
Speaking previously, MacGowan said: “ I’m not a morning person, but I am glad to be alive, so I’m grateful to wake up. I have beautiful carers who come and get me out of the bed and into the lime green chair.
“Usually someone tries to get me to do or talk about something. Sometimes people visit, or we go out to dinner, or sometimes I end up in hospital.
“If I don’t end up in hospital, I thank Jesus and His Holy Mother and all the saints and angels.”
