Shane Lowry has reacted to missing the cut at this weeks US Open Championship at Brookline Country Club in Boston Massachusetts.
Lowry has been in fine form this season, carding four top-10 finishes and top three results at The Masters, The Honda Classic and the RBC heritage. However, the Offaly man endured a couple of disappointing rounds this week, shooting a pair of 72's to finish four over par, missing the cut by a single stroke.
However, the Irishman, has been left upset by a decision made by the US Golf Association (USGA) in the middle of the second round. Lowry was fuming that the USGA decided to water the greens in the afternoons, making conditions easier for those that teed off in the afternoon.
In an Instagram post, Lowry referenced the USGA's decision, posting a picture of the greens being watered with the caption, "In what stratosphere is this fair @USGA?"
Lowry, who teed off in the morning and as a result played the course under harder conditions, was understandably displeased at the decision. The USGA's decision meant the course played much easier for the afternoon starters. As a result, the cutline moved from +4 to +3.
In the wake of his disappointment in not making it to the weekend, Lowry took to social media to react to missing the cut.
"What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger," writes Lowry.
"Tough week at the US open. Next stop…. Home for the Irish Open."
Next up for Lowry is the Irish Open at Mount Juliet which kicks off on June 30th. Shane's next chance at Major glory will be The Open Championship at St Andrews in July, where he tries to emulate his magical victory at Royal Portrush back in 2019.
