Shane Duffy has been told that unless he can get playing regularly, he may lose his place in his international squad, as the defender continues his post Celtic search for form.
The centre-back has been a mainstay for the Republic of Ireland, who face Scotland at Hampden in UEFA Nations League duty his Saturday. Alongside Everton's Seamus Coleman - who can't get in at right-back ahead of ex-Rangers defender Nathan Patterson - Duffy has been told by manager Stephen Kenny his place is at risk.
He's been a regular for his country despite his form domestically faltering following a 2020 loan move to Celtic that went awry, although Duffy is still competing at Premier League level on loan from Brighton at Fulham. Such prestige might not be able to save him from the Irish axe though, with just two minutes of league football played this term with his only start coming in a shock 2-0 Carabao Cup loss to Crawley Town.
