Shane Byrne leaves IrelandAM presenters in stitches over 'traumatising' Dancing With The Stars admission

Dancing with the Stars contestant, Shane Byrne, had the IrelandAM presenters in stitches this morning as he revealed some of his on-air secrets.

It’s a well-known fact that every cast member of the show has to endure regular spray tans, and while some likely love the weekly glow up, Byrne joked that the experience is ‘traumatising’.

During the interview, fellow rugby man Tommy Bowe asked the former Irish hooker, “how are you finding the spray tans?” to which Byrne replied: “Yeah,” as he hesitated while laughing.

“That’s a bit traumatic… to tell you the truth”.

When asked how he removes it at the end of each show, he said: “They just top it up like.”

He then replied with a mumble when asked if they “spray everywhere,” seemingly agreeing, as all three burst into laughter on the couch.

Aside from the spray tans, the former rugby player has surprised himself with how much fun he’s having with his partner Karen each week.

Speaking about how things are going on the show, Byrne said: “I tell you what, it’s great. It’s great fun, and Karen does amazing choreography, the dances have been fantastic.

“It’s something that I didn’t think I would enjoy as much as I am now”.

He even compares the buzz to that of competing for his country in front of thousands and said: “The one thing, you know the buzz right before you head out onto the pitch, that buzz is there for this too.

“Now the difference is, we were supposedly getting on to the rugby pitch, but this is still completely outside of my comfort zone, so that adds to it but it’s great fun”.

Although the 51-year-old is well used to having cameras around while playing, he said he still feels the pressure when they roll every Sunday night.

“The pressure is there, it has caught me on the hop,” he said.

“I’d be pretty chilled out about stuff, you know, I don’t get stressed about stuff at all, but I found myself just as you’re running into it you’re like ‘oh god ok, what’s the next step,’ and then you’re reminding yourself like ‘oh yeah yeah, you’re fine,’ and so you’re really, you’re not panicking but you’re just thinking ‘god, do I really know this?”
