Shams: Boston Celtics swingman Danilo Gallinari suffers meniscal tear in left knee

Boston Celtics veteran forward Danilo Gallinari appears to have dodged a major injury with news from The Athletic’s Shams Charania that the injured swingman has a meniscal tear in his left knee after getting an MRI on the limb he appeared to injure in a non-contact play while on the court for the Italian National Team in the fourth quarter of a FIBA qualifier game against the Georgian National Team on Saturday.

Concern it might be the same ACL Gallinari has already had operated on immediately came to mind after the Celtics forward limped off of the court, but soon after word came that his ligaments seemed stable. The MRI reportedly shows no ligament damage, however, a development Charania is calling the “best case” scenario for Gallo and the Celtics.

The Italian is out for the remainder of FIBA play as might be expected, and at present no timetable is available for when he might return to the court.

But such injuries can take anywhere from weeks to months to recover from as we saw the best-case scenario recently play out for fellow Boston frontcourt player Robert Williams III this past postseason.

Stay tuned to the Celtics Lab for more details on this developing story as they become available.
