Shakira’s mother ‘hospitalised’ after suffering blood clot in leg

Shakira’s mother Nidia Ripoll has been reportedly hospitalised in Barcelona after suffering a blood clot in her leg.

It was initially believed that she had a stroke, but it has since been alleged that her health scare was related to deep vein thrombosis, according to American-Spanish-language TV broadcaster Telemundo.

Colombian newspaper El Heraldo reported that Ripoll was admitted to hospital last Friday as a matter of “urgency” but is now “out of danger”, and is expected to be discharged shortly.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Shakira was moving to Miami with her two sons Milan, 10, and Sasha, eight, shared with ex Gerard Piqué, in April after agreeing to a custody deal.

The 46-year-old was originally expected to relocate to Florida at the beginning of January, however the move was cancelled after her 91-year-old dad’s health declined a year following his nasty fall.

It was reported by Catalan newspaper El Periodico that the Hips Don’t Lie star has now set a date for April 1 to head to the States, leaving her family home in Barcelona, Spain.

Journalist Laura Fa told the publication: “What we’re being told today is that she’s got a scheduled date to move there which would be April 1. If everything pans out she wants to go on that date.”

Fellow journalist Lorena Vasquez said: “This is information we’re receiving from the former couple’s closest circle.

“The only obstacle would be the health of Shakira’s father and it’s been well-documented that his health is a little bit complicated at the moment.

“Shakira’s idea is to take advantage of the Spring Break in the States to be able to travel to Miami with her sons so they could start their classes when the children there come back to class.”

Her delayed move was reported by the two Catalan journalists in January.

Shakira has primary custody of her two children following her split from Spanish ex-footballer Piqué. The pair confirmed their separation in a joint statement last May.

Following the split, she is thought to be determined to resettle in the sunshine state with her sons, joining some of her extended family who are based over there.

The move is understood to have been the main sticking point in the former couple’s prior failure to strike an out-of-court settlement.
