Gerard Pique has been spotted whisking his new girlfriend Clara Chia to Abu Dhabi for a romantic break to celebrate her 24th birthday.
The former Barcelona defender only split from long-term partner Shakira, 46, who he shares two children with, a few months ago.
But the 36-year-old footballer has seemingly moved on after going public with his new romance on social media.
He was spotted leaving Barcelona with Clara on Tuesday and it is believed they are staying in a luxury hotel in the Middle East, according to Spanish media reports.
When he returns he is expected to fly to Miami, where Shakira has moved for a “better new life in the US” with their two children.
The Hips Don’t Lie singer was with World Cup winner Gerard for 12 years and they have two sons, Milan, 10, and eight-year-old Sasha.
They announced their split last summer after Gerard was allegedly caught in bed with another woman.
Shakira reportedly kicked him out and the couple later released a brief statement confirming the break-up.
It said: “We regret to confirm that we are parting ways. For the wellbeing of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy. Thank you for your understanding.”
After living in Spain for years, Shakira made the decision to relocate to Miami for a fresh start with her children, although her and Gerard continue to co-parent.
Gerard has since said he is ‘very happy’ with public relations student Clara, who he says ‘wears the trousers’ in his new relationship.
The pair are said to have met when Clara began working for his movie and production company, Kosmos, where she oversees special events.
Although little else is known about his new beau, as she isn’t very active on social media and keeps some of her profiles private.
Since Gerard went public with his romance, Shakira seemed to take a swipe at his younger lover in her new song with Argentinian DJ Bizarrap.
She compared herself to a Rolex while appearing to brand Clara a ‘casio’ in the track.
Shakira also sang: “I’m worth two 22s” in a clear jib at Clara, who was believed to 22 when she started dating Gerard, although she may have been a year older.
In her first interview since the ‘painful’ split, Shakira said she felt ‘strengthened’ and no longer emotionally dependent on a man.
She told Mexican journalist Enrique Acevedo: “There is a place in hell reserved for women who don’t support other women.”
The Grammy-award winning singer went on to say she no longer bought into the story that a woman needed a man to complete herself.
“I had the dream of a family where the children had a mum and dad under the same roof,” she said.
“You don’t achieve all your dreams in life, but life has a way of compensating you and I think life has certainly done it with me. I have two marvellous children who fill me with love every day.”
