Shakhtar Donetsk gives Arsenal Mykhaylo Mudryk transfer update amid Dubai trip

Shakhtar Donetsk chief executive Sergei Palkin has revealed he is unsure whether attacker Mykhaylo Mudryk will leave the club in the January transfer window amid intense links to the Premier League and Arsenal in particular.

Mudryk has been targeted by the Gunners since the summer and has reportedly been prioritised ahead of the winter window after he recorded 10 goals and eight assists for the Ukrainian team this season. It's understood that Edu plans to bolster Mikel Arteta's frontline after Gabriel Jesus underwent successful surgery on a knee injury.

Alongside PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, Mudryk has been one of the highest names of Edu's transfer wishlist. However, despite reportedly being made available for around £30million-£40million in the summer, Mudryk is said to be valued at £90million by Shakhtar amid big money transfers involving Jack Grealish and Antony.

Speculation surrounding Mudryk has increased over the past few days after the forward was pictured in Dubai, where Arsenal's first team currently are, and reports that Palkin had been in London to hold discussions with several clubs over the future of their star man.

And the Shakhtar chief executive has provided an update on the club's stance over any potential business involving Mudryk next month, insisting talks with any interested parties are "quite far" from reaching an agreement. Speaking to The Athletic, he said: "To be honest, I do not know. At the moment, we are quite far from what we want and what clubs propose.

"It’s not so far but it is not what we need. We have discussions. One club, another club, they negotiate. We are in the process. Will it close this month? I don’t know. It is maybe 50-50 with regards to the winter transfer window. I don’t want to talk about figures now. We are in discussions. We have interest from some English clubs and we are in the process.”

Arsenal are not alone in wanting to lure the versatile forward to their club. It's understood that Premier League rivals Manchester City and Newcastle have also been tracking the player. However, Palkin remains reluctant to shed any light on which club is favourite.

"Every day, I read about another English club," he added. "If you believe the newspapers, it is all of (the English clubs). But to be honest, it is true as I have had contact from many clubs. A lot of them are involved in this process."
