Over the last two seasons, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has established himself as one of the best players in the league.
After finishing fifth in MVP voting last season, there’s a real possibility he will win the award this year. The 25-year-old is averaging 30.9 points on 54% shooting, 6.3 assists and 5.7 rebounds.
Despite their youth and inexperience, OKC has the makings of a title contender this season. Gilgeous-Alexander has led the Thunder (47-20) to first place in the Western Conference standings.
Gilgeous-Alexander recently played his 65th game of the season, which means he’s officially eligible for awards and honors and could be in line for a massive payday.
He’ll meet the supermax criteria of back-to-back All-NBA seasons, which he can officially sign in the 2025 NBA offseason due to only being in his sixth season.
He has three years and $115 million left in his current deal that’ll expire after the 2026-27 season. If he signs the supermax extension before then, the Thunder will lock down the entire prime of Gilgeous-Alexander.

But those talks are a ways away before they get serious. For now, Gilgeous-Alexander hopes to lead the Thunder to their first deep playoff run since 2016.
