After winning it for the first time last month, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was nominated for January’s Western Conference Player of the Month award.
This shouldn’t be a shocker as Gilgeous-Alexander has played like an MVP candidate all season on one of the best teams in the league. The 25-year-old has led the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 33-15 record and second place in the Western Conference standings.
The All-Star starter has been amazing for OKC all season. In 47 games, he’s averaging 31.3 points on 54.5% shooting, 6.4 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals.
In 17 games in January, he averaged 31.5 points on 54.3% shooting, 6.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds. He shot 40% from 3 on 3.5 attempts.
Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker won the award for January. Other nominees for the Western Conference’s version include Luke Doncic, Nikola Jokic, Kawhi Leonard, Domantas Sabonis, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Lauri Markkanen.
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell won the Eastern Conference’s version of the award for January.
