The Scottish FA should join England and Wales in boycotting football fixtures with Russia, Ian Murray MP has demanded.
Labour’s Shadow Scottish Secretary said the the Scottish team should make it clear they will not play any Russian matches and that Russia should be banned from the World Cup over the invasion of Ukraine.
Murray said: “It is crucial that Vladimir Putin’s barbaric regime feels the full weight of both economic and cultural sanctions.
“The Scottish FA must join the English and Welsh FAs, and other countries around the world, in making clear that it will not play any matches against Russia.
“Russia should not be allowed to participate in the World Cup following their unprovoked and illegal invasion of the sovereign nation of Ukraine.”
Scotland is due to play Ukraine at Hampden on March 25 in the World Cup qualifying play-off.
Although no Scotland international matches are scheduled against Russia in the near future the SFA is expected to announce a similar boycott to the other Home Nations associations.
