SFA announce tribute to the Queen at Hampden ahead of Scotland vs Ukraine

The SFA have been granted permission from UEFA to pay tribute to the Queen with a minute's applause before their Nations League clash against Ukraine at Hampden. Football paid its respects to the late monarch, laid to rest on Monday, at the weekend.

England have made plans to honour the Queen when they take on Germany at Wembley and it emerged earlier today Hampden chiefs have contacted European football’s governing body.

Dundee United fans disrupted a minute’s silence before their match with Rangers at Ibrox on Saturday and footage emerged of similar at Easter Road before Hibs vs Aberdeen. And Celtic fans chanted anti-monarchy songs and unveiled a banner during a minute’s applause at St Mirren.

Now it’s the turn of international football with a bumper crowd expected to see Steve Clarke’s men in action against Ukraine before they welcome Republic of Ireland to Hampden on Saturday followed by a return clash with Ukraine.

And a statement on Tuesday confirmed a tribute would go ahead: "Following discussions with UEFA, we can confirm that there will be a minute's applause ahead of our match against Ukraine, in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II."
