Sex Pistols star Steve Jones has revealed he is a secret fan of Sir Cliff Richard.
The guitarist, 66, described the pop legend, 81, as “brilliant”, adding he loves his movies including Summer Holiday.
He said: “They are so innocent and great. You should put them on before you go to bed.”
Jones, whose band is the subject of new series Pistol, said the Living Doll singer previously appeared on his US radio show after meeting him in a coffee shop.
He added: “He called me a week later and came on with a guitar and I couldn’t get rid of him. He was brilliant.”
Jones, who is based in LA, told the BBC that Sir Cliff “never really cracked it in America, although he had a couple of hits”.
Drummer Paul Cook said while he was not as keen on Sir Cliff, he was a fan of the Shadows.
On Jones’ radio show in 2007, Sir Cliff backed calls for him to be knighted and said he would speak to the Queen.
But Jones is certain she will never give a title to a punk, let alone one who with bandmates Glen Matlock and John Lydon poked fun at her in a song.
On Saturday, their sarcastic God Save The Queen was the biggest-selling single of the day.
The controversial song was first released to coincide with the Queen’s Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977.
It was No2 at the time despite being banned by the BBC but last Friday’s re-issue could hit No1.
