Filming for the fourth season of hit Netflix show Sex Education has resumed after production began in August this year, which means we are one step closer to binging on the much-loved show's latest series. And it seems the residents of Ebbw Vale have been lucky enough to get a glimpse of what's to come as stars from the show were spotted in the Blaenau Gwent area.
It is no secret that the show is mostly filmed in Wales, and over the last few days, Asa Butterfield, who plays the lead, Otis, has been seen alongside the brand new Doctor Who Ncuti Gatwa (Otis' best friend, Eric), who last night, Sunday, October 9, was in Cardiff attending the BAFTA Cymru awards, and Emma Mackey .(Maeve).
It comes after several people have seen cast members and film set in tEbbw Vale, the Wye valley and Abergavenny with locations such as council offices and props such as an ambulance being used. A Netflix representative has confirmed that filming will continue into early 2023.

Expressing their excitement on Twitter at spotting the show's film set, one user, @__tylerjames, wrote: "they’re filming sex education about 2 minutes from my house at the council offices ???" before adding another tweet to their thread: "does that mean Gillian Anderson is in ebbw vale ???????????" Sadly, it seems that there has been no sighting of Gillian just yet, but we're expecting it won't be long before her character, Dr Jean, makes an appearance.
Meanwhile, @genyaakostyk had a chance encounter with the film crew in Abergavenny, tweeting: "casually ran into filming for sex education season 4 on the first day of my holiday". They added: "I think I saw ncuti as we drove past the set".
Another resident said: "Found out that they r filming sex education 10 minutes away from where I live. Pretty swag." They then confirmed the filming was "in the garden festival", alongside @liamsewage who wrote: "OH APPARENTLY ITS SEX EDUCATION THATS BEEN FILMING IN EBBW VALE. Heckin."
The hugely popular show, which began in 2019, follows teenager Otis, played by Asa Butterfield, and his sex therapist mother Dr Jean Milburn (played by the incredible Gillian Anderson), as he and his friends navigate relationships at Moordale High School. The latest series sees not only a handful of the much-loved cast returning, but some sparkling new faces. Earlier this year it was revealed that Emmy award-winning actor and Schitt’s Creek star, Dan Levy, will be playing Thomas Molloy, a famous author and Maeve’s (Emma Mackey) US course tutor at her Ivy League college - it's not confirmed any of his scenes will be over here, but that would be brilliant.
Ebbw Vale joins a long list of Welsh filming locations that have been used across the four seasons, creating stunning and picturesque backdrops.
The stunning village of Tintern in the Wye Valley is often seen on screen as the backdrop for Otis and Eric's daily cycle to Moordale. And while the show is whole-heartedly British, with a phenomenal cast of Brit actors and actresses, there is a slight American feel to it when it comes to Moordale - the students wear their own clothes, wear Letterman jackets and play American football. However, the school itself, with its impressive clock tower, is positively Welsh being the former University of South Wales' Caerleon campus, which back in the day played host to around 4,500 students before it closed in 2016.
Other locations have included the stunning Grade II-listed theatre, The Paget Rooms in Penarth - which are used for scenes depicting the school gym and hall - Llandogo in Monmouthshire (including Browns Village Stores), Margam Country Park and Castle (seen in the show as Mountainside Military School attended by Adam in series 2) and Tonyrefail's Rhondda Bowl - to name a few.
While there's no confirmed release date for the fourth season of the show, it's speculated that it will be out in the middle on 2023.
