Alice Levine will be left open-mouthed after meeting a man whose “life partner” is a sex doll in Monday’s (February 27) first episode of the second series of Sex Actually. In the Channel 4 three-parter, which has been produced by Louis Theroux’s production company, the 36-year-old presenter heads further afield to meet people pushing the boundaries of sex, relationships and intimacy.
The first episode focuses on how technology plays a role in people’s sex lives. Upon travelling to the United States, Alice meets Alexander - A man who is, in his own words, “married” to a sex doll.
Speaking ahead of the new series, Alice said: “Alexander, who is married to his love doll Mimi, which is a very unusual sentence which perhaps I thought I would never say…spending time with him was actually a really heartbreaking, sweet and romantic story.”

In an interview with Metro.co.uk, Alice added: “It is actually not really that much about sex, it is about love and connection and how difficult it can be being out in the world and having an open heart and putting yourself on the line.”
Explaining to Alice why he decided to enter a relationship with a sex doll, Alexander said that, while in college, he went through a significant heartbreak that led to severe depression and a suicide attempt. He confirmed that Mimi had helped him to form another connection.
The presenter explained: “I think there are really relatable things about each of these stories and what we are trying to do is find something that is a touchstone for everybody, but perhaps the packaging is extraordinary. There are very relatable feelings of heartbreak, loneliness and longing, but what he is doing is very new and perhaps strange to some people, but I think the emotions that he feels are very human.”
Alice went on to call her new show, “sex positive”, and how her role was to understand and not to judge. “This is a very sex positive show. We are asking people to open up and be frank with us about things that are often taboo and very private. We were curious and interested and we thought what these people were doing was brave and fascinating and while they did understand I had to ask some difficult questions at times, they knew I wanted to help tell their stories.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Alice puts herself in the hot seat for some truly eye-opening experiences, including getting a VR blow job, attending a sex party, and even participating in a fetish video. Sex Actually with Alice Levine begins at 10pm on Channel 4 on Monday, January 27. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
