Sevilla boss outlines Bryan Gil transfer stance as Cristian Stellini gives Tottenham update

Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli has admitted he is interested in Bryan Gil ahead of transfer deadline day. Having to make do with limited minutes in the first part of the season, the Spaniard was given his opportunity in the Tottenham team at the turn of the year and duly impressed.

Wowing in the 4-0 win away at Crystal Palace and then in the FA Cup home tie against Portsmouth a few days later, Gil has only played two minutes since then and has missed the past two matches due to a knock. Always set to be a name in the headlines come January due to his lack of regular football, his name has cropped up once again following Tottenham's loan move for Villarreal attacker Arnaut Danjuma.

That could potentially impact Gil in what remains of the transfer window, with Sevilla linked with the player they sold to Tottenham in July 2021. Speaking to the media, Sampaoli has revealed his interest in Gil and stated that he called him last year when he was in charge of Marseille.

"Bryan Gil enters my profile because I called him personally last year in Marseille," admitted the Argentine, as reported by Spanish publication AS. "He seems to me a player who would give us things on the wing, but they are situations that, from wanting to real possibility, I no longer participate.

"[Jeff] Reine-Adelaide seemed to me that he had a lot of potential and then his condition do not concern me. I'm not the one to evaluate that."

Ahead of the FA Cup win over Portsmouth at the start of January, Tottenham assistant head coach Cristian Stellini indicated to football.london that the winger would likely stay in north London for the remainder of the campaign after impressing in the first team.

"I think so, yeah," said the Italian. "He could and he's playing very well. We're so happy because he's another player we worked a lot with.

"He has a great, great, great improvement, because he trains every day 110%. He puts in all his energy every day and this is why he deserved to play a good [Crystal Palace] match to be important in that match, with an assist, and the last pass before an assist. It was a great match for him."

When pushed by football.london for a fresh update on Gil's future ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie vs Preston North End, the assistant head coach said: "It's not a question that I can answer because I'm not involved in these types of decisions. My opinion is the same as three weeks ago so nothing has changed for me."
