The Storm Prediction Center has reported that the severe storm threat that affected the Deep South and Gulf Coast today is now on the decline. The Level 4 out of 5 risk has dissipated, leaving only a Level 3 threat in a small area encompassing southeastern Alabama, southwestern Georgia, and the Florida Panhandle. This Level 3 risk coincides with a tornado watch that is in effect until 9 pm ET.
The population at risk of severe storms has been significantly reduced to less than 5 million as the threat diminishes over the western and central Gulf Coast. While the severe storm threat is waning in these areas, the northern and northeastern Gulf Coast may still experience severe weather this afternoon, evening, and possibly overnight. The Storm Prediction Center has warned that there is still a potential for a few tornadoes and damaging winds in these regions.
