Government health bosses are warning of "severe cold" conditions that could present "health risks" to some groups of people.
The UK is set to see a temperature drop due to a northerly airmass that will likely mean snow will fall next week. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has now extended a Level 3 cold weather alert, now due to last from 00.01am on Monday (March 6) until 23.59pm on Thursday (March 9) across the north of England.
A Level 2 cold weather alert is in place for the remainder of England, for the same time period. The Met Office said there is a 90% probability of severe cold weather/icy conditions/heavy snow during these times.

UKHSA guidance states: "This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services."
Its "Cold Weather Plan" advises people to "stay warm", adding: "If going outside, make sure you dress appropriately. If indoors, make sure that you keep your heating to the right temperature; heating your home to at least 18C in winter poses minimal risk to your health when you are wearing suitable clothing.
"If there is anyone you know who might be at special risk, for example, an older person living on their own, make sure they know what to do to stay warm and are well stocked with food and medications. If you are worried about your health or that of somebody you know, ring NHS 111".
