SEVERAL Scottish hotels have made The Times Top 100 best places to stay in the UK for 2025.
The annual list of the highlights some of the finest hotels in the UK, which according to the list authors, was particularly competitive for this year’s list.
Design, facilities, dining, service and value for money are key considerations critics take into account when ordering the rankings.
Landing at the coveted number 14 spot and taking the title as Scotland hotel of the year is The Torridon in the Highlands.
Located roughly 90-minutes away from Inverness, The Torridon is described by The Times as: “Traditional — but never stuffy — and on your doorstep are deer-filled forests and mossy Munros that beckon for high-octane hikes. Such aerobic effort deserves epicurean rewards.”
Their praise continues: “The Torridon delivers with a snug pub and brasserie for beers and burgers, a fabulous fine-dining restaurant for dress-up dinners and a cocktail bar whose 365 single malts and 80-plus gins have likely ruined many a best-laid plan for the morning.”
The venue was opened in 1887 as a hunting lodge by William King-Noel, the first Earl of Lovelace. According to the hotel’s website: “The Torridon is a good example of the kind of Scottish holiday home that the English nobility enjoyed”.
Also making its way in at number 17 is Glasgow’s House of Gods, which first opened its doors in April 2024.
The stunning hotel was described by the The Times writers as: “A flamboyant boutique hotel fast becoming one of the city’s coolest hangouts.
They continue: “Decor is fun. A Greek goddess statue rises out of a copper bath tub; brass monkeys crawl across tables. Rooms have naughty red lighting over the (often four-poster) beds, and guests ring a little bell for prosecco or milk and cookies at bedtime, brought by smiley young staff”.
House of Gods is a hotel chain with another venue in Edinburgh and one set to open in Canary Wharf, London at some point in 2025.
A review by The National noted how the venue has "unapologetic extravagance", and took particular favour with the location, decor and bar offerings.
Every year, Times reviewers stay at hundreds of hotels across the UK and decide the best for the paper's annual survey.
Other Scottish hotels named on the list were 100 Princes Street in Edinburgh, which was named Best City Hotel, while Gleneagles in Perth and Kinross was highlighted as Best Hotel for Sports.
