Dublin City Cllr. Daithi Doolan said: "The fire today in a homeless hostel in Little Britain Street is deeply concerning and shocking for everyone involved.

"I want to wish the six people hospitalised a full and speedy recovery. Only for the speedy response of emergency services and staff the situation could have been much more serious.

"It is vital that everyone is supported through this traumatic time. Those staying at this hostel need and deserve all the wrap around services that can be offered.

"People will need access to clothes, medication and financial support. I would appeal to the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive, the HSE and all other services to urgently coordinate a response to meet the needs of those staying at the De Paul hostel."
