STRONG gales have caused disruption for many ferry travellers on Tuesday, with winds causing several popular ferry routes to be cancelled.
The Met Office has said Scotland is to face wet and windy weather moving in the north of the country, moving further south as the week presses on until it disperses on Thursday.
As a result, CalMac is not sailing several popular routes on Tuesday, citing the "strong south-westerly winds" which were gusting up to 46mph at the time of their update at 5.44am.
Multiple other routes will face disruptions or possible disruptions due to the harsh weather.
The ferry operator warned passengers travelling on Wednesday to make sure to check their sailings are running before setting off.
CalMac warned that routes are "liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice".

Freight Ullapool – Stornoway
Mallaig – Lochboisdale – Oban Oban – Castlebay
Oban – Coll – Tiree

Uig – Tarbert
Wemyss - Rothesay
Overnight freight ferries on the route are similarly affected, with cancellations on Tuesday and warnings of possible disruption on Wednesday.
NorthLink Ferries meanwhile was operating to its scheduled timetable on Tuesday morning, but the operator was warning passengers travelling across the Pentland Firth that disruption was possible.
A spokesperson said: "Due to forecasted adverse weather conditions, delays are possible on all sailings."
