ISLANDERS are facing ferry disruption as several journeys have been cancelled due to engine problems on CalMac’s largest vessel.
The ferry operator said services were disrupted due to an issue with MV Loch Seaforth’s engine control system.
Sailings leaving from Stornoway at 7am and 2pm have been cancelled as well as the 10.30am service from Ullapool.
The national ferry operator has confirmed a review will be held to decide if the 5.30pm service from Ullapool will be able to go ahead.
In the meantime, passengers have been urged to use the Uig to Tarbert route.
There are currently three other CalMac large vessels out of action due to problems discovered during overhauls.
MV Caledonian Isles, MV Hebridean Isles and MV Clansman have not been in service since the summer timetable started on April 1.
A spokesperson for CalMac said: “We apologise for the disruption and inconvenience that this is causing to our customers.”
Last month, the ferry operator’s chief executive Robbie Drummond warned the next two years would be “challenging” for island residents due to the age of the CalMac fleet.
A third of the ferries are more than 30 years old with the renewal of the fleet hit by delays with the building of two ships at Ferguson shipyard in Port Glasgow.
