Several Boston Celtics alumni faced off in Germany’s surprise 76-63 EuroBasket win over France

Several Boston Celtics alumni faced off in the German National Team’s surprise 76-63 win over the French National Team on Thursday, which saw former Celtics center Guerschon Yabusele led France with 18 points, a block, and an assist in the loss, with ex-Boston big man Vincent Poirier putting up another 8 points, 4 boards, an assist, and 2 steals. Wing and Celtics alum Evan Fournier added another 7 points, 2 rebounds, an assist, and a steal.

For Germany, Dennis Schroder chipped in 11 points, a board, 5 assists, and a steal, while old friend Daniel Theis put up another 8 points, 6 boards, an assist, and a steal to help secure the upset win over the 2020 Olympic silver medalists from Tokyo.

“No one said it’s going to be easy,” said French (and Minnesota Timberwolves) center Rudy Gobert via Eurohoops’ Antonis Stroggylakis. “We are facing this team at their home.”

“We aren’t good today. We got way too many turnovers. And they were very physical. We got to find ways to play our game when the other team is physical and the game isn’t played our way.”
