Seven San Antonio police officers were shot by a suicidal man during a distressing incident that unfolded at the Sonterra Heights apartment complex in the 18700 block of Stone Oak Parkway. The San Antonio Police Department Chief, William McManus, revealed that the officers were shot by the suspect before the SWAT team arrived on the scene.
Following an intense standoff, the suspect was discovered deceased inside the apartment. Chief McManus stated that the cause of the suspect's death, whether self-inflicted or due to SWAT gunfire, remains uncertain.
The unidentified suspect had a history of three arrests on January 18, including two for assault offenses and one for DWI. Shockingly, the suspect was out on bond at the time of the officer-involved shooting.
The harrowing incident commenced just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, as per sources. Eyewitness Joseph Loredo, a resident of the apartment complex, recounted seeing an SAPD officer being shot and receiving medical attention for what appeared to be a leg wound.
Loredo further mentioned capturing video footage of the exchange of gunfire between the officers and the suspect. Chief McManus described the suspect as a man in his 40s and disclosed that the initial call to the police originated from a family member.
