Seven right-backs Manchester United can target as Erik ten Hag alters transfer stance

Manchester United want to make two further defensive signings during the summer transfer window, even after welcoming Tyrell Malacia to the club.

As things stand, the Netherlands left-back remains the only incoming sanctioned by Erik ten Hag as he sets about his much-needed rebuild. Other targets are on the radar, including Lisandro Martinez.

United have submitted an offer for the Ajax player as they aim to bolster at centre-back. However, before players are allowed to leave in that position, the Old Trafford giants have set their sights on creating competition for Portugal international Diogo Dalot as their primary right-back.

Currently away on a pre-season tour, United have altered their transfer plans amid Cristiano Ronaldo outlining his intention to depart. Here are seven right-backs Ten Hag could target in time for next season.

Max Aarons (Norwich City): A highly-rated product of the Norwich system, relegation from the Premier League means he should be available this summer as the 22-year-old strives for senior England recognition. He has earned 15 caps for the U21s and continues to be tipped with a move to one of the big-hitters.

Vladimir Coufal (West Ham): Perhaps a wildcard in this company. Coufal has slipped under the radar but remains a key part of everything good about West Ham in their current guise. At face value, his contract ending next summer appears tempting, but the Hammers do hold an option to extend that agreement.

Sergino Dest (Barcelona): Dealing with Barcelona has proven to be a testing assignment for United this summer. However, given their ongoing and much-published financial concerns, any subsequent fire sale might include Dest and, with that, there is a potential bargain to be had.

Denzel Dumfries (Inter Milan): Is there a Dutch player United have not been linked to under Ten Hag? Emerging onto the European stage at PSV - where he spent three years - Dumfries signed for Inter Milan last summer. But he would be absolutely perfect for Ten Hag and at 26 he is entering his peak years.

Tino Livramento (Southampton): Starting his career in the Chelsea system, the Londoners might rue their call on Livramento as and when he bursts onto the England scene. The 19-year-old must first recover from an ACL setback, but United have previous when it comes to Southampton full-backs.

Nordi Mukiele (RB Leipzig): Well-known to former interim manager Ralf Rangnick, there is a strong possibility that his name would have been brought up had Rangnick ever got to fulfil his consultancy role. Either way, with only 12 months to run on his contract, elite clubs from across Europe have a green light to pick up the phone.

Benjamin Pavard (Bayern Munich): Despite being first choice ever since joining Bayern from fellow German outfit Stuttgart three years ago, the World Cup winner is heading towards a crossroads in his career after Bayern won the race for Noussair Mazraoui from, you guessed it, Ten Hag's former club Ajax.
