Eddie Howe has already admitted Newcastle United will consider transfer targets from relegated sides this summer. The Magpies must bulk up their squad to prepare for the coming campaign in the Champions League while toeing the line for Financial Fair Play regulations.
Yankuba Minteh looks set to become Newcastle's first signing of the summer, with a deal for the Odense Boldklub teenager said to be close. However, the winger would almost certainly not be included in Howe's senior squad for the new campaign due to the new GBE regulations introduced after Brexit.
Relegation for Leeds United, Leicester City and Southampton will inevitably lead to a host of high-profile departures as clubs look to balance the books. It is a market which could provide real value for Newcastle this summer, and here are seven targets who could come under consideration in the summer window.

Tyler Adams
The USA international proved to be a costly miss during Leeds' relegation run-in as Sam Allardyce proved unable to shore up the porous backline. Signed from RB Leipzig as Kalvin Phillips' replacement, Adams received rave reviews and made 26 appearances for the Whites.
Newcastle could do with a number six to either rotate with Bruno Guimares, or allow the Brazil international to play in an advanced role. Adams has already been linked with both Arsenal and Manchester United along with the Magpies, and the 24-year-old could provide an affordable option with the scope to build upon a promising debut Premier League campaign.
Harvey Barnes
Recent reports suggest Leicester City have placed a £40 million price tag on the winger who has previously been linked with Newcastle. Barnes still netted 13 league goals despite a dismal campaign for the Foxes, and looks certain to leave with two years' left on his contract.
Newcastle are well-stocked on the left flank, with the January signing of Anthony Gordon adding to a plethora of options including Alexander Isak, Joelinton, and Allan Saint-Maximin. There is a logical argument to say a right-sided forward should be the priority, but Barnes' recent record means at the very least, the one-cap England international should come under consideration.
Jack Harrison
Newcastle reportedly failed with two bids for the Leeds United winger last summer. Harrison enjoyed an impressive finish to the 2021/22 season, but struggled for consistency last term while still going on to register five goal and seven assists in the Premier Leaguee.
Recent reports on targets elsewhere and the improvement of the likes of Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy could mean the Magpies have now moved on from their interest in the 26-year-old. Harrison recently signed a five-year contract extension too, but Newcastle's previous interest means the prospect of a return should not be discounted.
James Maddison
Arguably the most obvious link, speculation over Maddison's future has gathered momentum just days on from Leicester's relegation. The playmaker will enter the final year of his contract, and his form this season earned a long-awaited return to the England squad for the World Cup.
Newcastle desperately need a creative midfielder capable of unlocking a deep defence, and Maddison has proven himself capable in a number of attacking roles in recent seasons. Tottenham have often been named as the Magpies' biggest contenders for a deal, although links to Dominik Szoboszlai has led to suggestions it could be a case of one or the other for Newcastle.
Romeo Lavia
The young midfielder arrived at St Mary's last summer as part of a conscious drive from Southampton to acquire rising stars. Lavia was one of the few to emerge from a poor season for the Saints with credit, and reports suggest a host of Premier League clubs have already held talks over a move.
Manchester City are said to hold a £40m buyback clause for the teenager, and Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked. Lavia remains a raw talent, but the Saints relegation could provide an ideal opportunity for Howe to acquire the deep-lying midfielder who would fill a role for the present while also having the potential to grow with the project.
Kyle Walker-Peters
Newcastle United are not in immediate need of a right-back, with Kieran Trippier deservedly being named in most if not all Premier League team of the seasons. Emil Krafth will return from a long-term injury, while the Magpies have also brought in Harrison Ashby to serve as a potential long-term successor.
However, Walker-Peters' versatility and consistency in recent seasons could make the former Tottenham defender a valuable squad addition. The 26-year-old has shone in both full-back roles, and is expected to move on this summer with Chelsea and Manchester United both linked in January.
James Ward-Prowse
The Southampton captain is another who is expected to earn a Premier League transfer this summer, having previously shunned offers to leave. Ward-Prowse's legendary status at the Saints has already been cemented, and the club's owners Sport Republic have confirmed a sale would be considered if a 'satisfying' proposal was received.
Newcastle's midfield options looked limited in the closing stages of the season, and the 28-year-old would provide a wealth of Premier League experience having already racked up more than 400 top-flight appearances. Ward-Prowse has the energy and the quality in possession to slot into the Magpies' setup, while also rivalling Trippier for set-piece duties.
