Man and woman charged with murder and torture of seven-month-old boy found dead in Yugar, north-west of Brisbane

A man and a woman have been charged with murder and torture after police found a seven-month-old boy dead at Yugar, north-west of Brisbane, Thursday morning.

A crime scene was declared after police were called to an address on Mount Samson Road at 6:45am, where they found the child.

Detective Inspector David Jackman said the two people arrested are a 33-year-old man and 22-year-old woman.

"I cannot comment in relation to their relationship with the deceased child. However, they all are known to one another," he said.

"The investigations uncovered injuries to the child that are enough for us to charge with murder," Inspector Jackman said.

Inspector Jackman said police were alerted to the incident after receiving an initial call about an "unresponsive male child".

He said paramedics attended the scene and later notified the police.

Inspector Jackman said the pair are not known to police — and that they lived together in the home.

"Neither is that address [known to police], we have not had any calls for service to that address," he said.

Inspector Jackman said initial investigations suggest the child did not have any underlying health issues.

"From what I've seen, the child was not neglected in terms of nourishment and such, but it's quite confronting," he said.

"I have been a detective for 30-odd years, and it is one of the most confronting scenes I've seen.

"The child was found in the house, but where in the house, I'm not at liberty to say.

"Both people are upset and we're looking after their welfare, as well as the welfare of the first responders that attended."

Inspector Jackman said the investigation is only in its early stages.

"We will be going back through family history, speaking with family and such. Whether or not they were aware of anything that may have led to this," he said.

The man and woman were charged with one count each of murder and torture and are due to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.
