Seven family activities to do this February half term across Nottinghamshire under £10

February half term is nearly here and it can be a challenging time to know what to do. With little ones to occupy, many will be looking to get out of the house.

In a time when money is tight however, it can be hard to know where to spend family days out without breaking the bank. These days out can be expensive.

That's why we have complied a round up of seven things to do across Nottinghamshire this half term for under £10. It should keep your children and wallet happy!

Here are the seven activities:

Nikki Charlesworth Presents: What Happened to you?

Where: Inspire Libraries in Beeston, West Bridgford, Mansfield, Hucknall, Newark, Southwell, Worksop and Retford

When: 14 – 17 February

Cost: £3 library members | £6 non-library members

What Happened to You? follows Little Red, Noodles and Bo, three raggedy puppets, trying to enjoy their day...but there are so many busy bodies getting in their way!

What Happened to You? is a semi-autobiographical puppetry show by artist Nikki Charlesworth, who throws away the rulebook with these award-winning puppets that reflect her own physicality and move as she moves. For ages 7+ book here.

Magical Garden Trail

Where: Rufford Abbey Country Park

When: 11 - 26 February, 10.00am - 4.00pm Daily

Cost: £2.50 per trail sheet (each trail sheet allows the holder one treat)

Put on your fairy wings and follow the trail around Rufford Abbey’s Magical Gardens and create your own adventure. Let your imagination run wild at Rufford Abbey Country Park.

Bird Feeder Making

Where: Creswell Crags Museum & Heritage Centre

When: Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Monday 13th to Friday 24th February

Cost: £3 per child, adults accompany for free

Get the whole family involved in making a range of bird feeders. Get messy with fat balls, creative with pine cones, and learn all about the birds these different types of feeder will attract as you make your own to hang in your garden.

The sessions run from 10am - 12:30pm and 1pm - 3pm each Monday, Wednesday and Friday over Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire's Half Term Holidays. Suitable for children aged four and up, under adult supervision, and no booking required - simply go to reception when you arrive and buy a ticket.

Moon Rabbit

Where: Libraries in Beeston, Mansfield and Worksop

When: 11 - 14 February, one session at 11am and one at 2pm

Cost: £3 to £6

This magical piece of storytelling theatre recounts some of the extraordinary myths and folk tales of China and East Asia, each one a firm favourite with generations of Chinese and East Asian families. A show rich with music, wonder, and surprise.

World of Science

Where: Lakeside Arts Centre

When: 14 February, 10am till 12pm

Cost: £8

An interactive two hour science workshop will ignite your child's curiosity, fuel their imagination, and inspire them to take part in the wonderful world of crazy science. Suitable for ages 8-12. Book here.

Baking

Where: Green's Windmill

When: 16 and 18 February, 10:15am till 2:30pm

Cost: £4

There will be six sessions on Thursday and Saturday where children can get creative in the kitchen. Thursday offers children the chance to bake their own fruity cupcakes and Saturday will focus on choc chip biscuits. All ingredients are supplied and is suitable for children aged 3 and up.

Superhero Capes

Where: The Harley Gallery

When: 17 February, 10:30am and 12:30pm

Cost: £7 per child (accompanying adults go free)

Join textile artist Anne Kelly and make a superhero cape. Families are invited to join The Harley Gallery in the Creative Space for a special workshop with their visiting artist. Anne will help you to create your own superhero cape from fabric and paper collage. Expect gluing and drawing, stitching, and snipping.

In this workshop, we are inviting you to be inspired either by your favourite hero or by a fairy tale as a way of connecting with these stories and traditions. You are welcome to bring along any photos or images that represent any of these ideas to help you with your design. All materials will be provided, but if you have a sewing kit, please feel free to bring it along. Suitable for ages 5 and up, book here.
