A person was trapped in a car for "medical reasons" following a seven car crash by a Lidl supermarket.
Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to Leasowe Road in Wallasey at around 8.10am to reports of a multi-car collision. Three vehicles were found to be in the carriageway and a Merseyside Police spokesperson confirmed the road "was blocked".
Pictures from the scene show dozens of fire officers in attendance alongside police and ambulance crews near the Lidl. One eyewitness said at the time of the incident the road was "gridlocked".

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said one person was "confined to a vehicle" for medical reasons, which prevented them from exiting. North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) helped the person out the car and took them to hospital for further assessment.
NWAS checked another person and all involved were conscious and breathing. The extent of injuries are unknown, a Merseyside Police spokesperson said.
Pictures showing recovery also attended the scene. A spokesperson for Merseyside police thanked the public for their "patience" while emergency services attended the scene.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue said: "Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service attended a road traffic collision (RTC) on Leasowe Road in Wallasey on the morning of Thursday, March 31. Crews were alerted at 8.08am with two fire engines on scene shortly after.
"On arrival crews were met with a seven-vehicle RTC, with three vehicles affecting the carriageway, all vehicles were on all four wheels. One occupant was confined to the vehicle for medical reasons and could not exit the vehicle.
"North West Ambulance Service assisted the individual from the vehicle and conveyed them to hospital for further assessment. NWAS also carried out cautionary checks on another occupant, all involved were conscious and breathing.
"Merseyside Police were also in attendance to assist with traffic management. Our crews made the scene safe on left at 9.32am."
