A serving Metropolitan Police detective has been found guilty of harassment following a trial at the Old Bailey.
Temporary Detective Constable Christopher Gibbons, 32, repeatedly harassed the same woman over an 11-day period last year.
DC Gibbons, attached to the Central West Command Unit, was arrested on September 25, after an incident earlier that day in which he harassed the victim.
A Met Police investigation established other occasions where Gibbons had harassed the same woman, between September 14 and September 25.
Gibbons was charged with harassment on February 21. The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards was made aware, and he was suspended from duty.
He was found guilty of harassment following a trial that ended at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
He will be sentenced at the same court on August 10.
Scotland Yard said a misconduct hearing will be arranged as soon as possible.
Chief Superintendent Louise Puddefoot, in charge of policing in Central West BCU, said: “We have made it clear that any police officer or member of staff who commits a criminal offence will be brought to justice.
“We must give London the Met that it deserves, and anyone that fails to meet that standard, particularly if they commit a criminal offence, cannot possibly remain in our organisation.”
