'Serious player' - Arsenal fans react to £34m Fabio Vieira transfer as Edu closes in

If there's one thing that I love most about the transfer window, it is a breaking story which comes out of absolutely nowhere! That's exactly what happened this afternoon as football.london understands Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is coming off the back of an impressive 2021/22 campaign, during which he scored seven goals and provided 16 assists in 39 appearances.

Vieira's versatility is also likely to be a reason behind the Gunners' interest. The Portugal U21 international is able to play as both a central and attacking midfielder, as well as a second-striker and winger.

Arsenal are already said to be in talks to sign Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus and Leicester's Youri Tielemans, with negotiations expected to accelerate in the coming days and weeks. But for now, it looks like it will be Vieira who will become the club's next signing, and it's safe to say the fanbase is excited for his arrival. Here's how some supporters reacted to the news on Twitter.

@ZRAFC: 'Wow.'

@TikiTakaConnor: 'Serious Player.'

@crdkrysolov: 'Fits the project profile, and the consistency is pleasing. Love the fact we obviously operated rapidly and quietly - good sign.'

@BKArsenal14: 'Such an exciting transfer.'

@ArminImamovic6: 'Great but under the condition that it is only the start of a busy window. Now let’s get Jesus, Tielemans and whoever else Arteta wants!'

@bryark23: 'Great signing, young player, looks a great talent. Love how it’s out of nowhere.'

@RAS_afc: 'Genuinely excited for a potentially very very good player.'
