A serious crash which closed the A4 Bath Road through Brislington has left traffic 'gridlocked', say witnesses. Emergency services are at the scene of a crash, reportedly involving a car and a motorcycle, on the road near the Hicks Gate roundabout.
The busy road has been closed in both directions since 4.20pm today (June 22) and Avon and Somerset Police have warned motorists to avoid the area. Diverting traffic has created chaos on roads through Brislington, with reports of long delays and heavy congestion.
A tweet from the police service said the road is closed between Hicks Gate Roundabout to the junction with Emery and Stockwood Road. Collision investigation work is being carried out.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix reports the crash involved a motorcycle and a car. A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said: "Emergency services are at the scene of a serious road traffic collision this afternoon (Thursday 22 June) on the A4 Bath Road, in Brislington.
"The road has been closed from Hicks Gate Roundabout to the junction with Emery and Stockwood Road. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes."
Photos taken in Brislington show long delays and queues through the area, with one witness saying traffic has been 'gridlocked' for an hour.
Inrix reports: "A4 Bath Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to accident investigation work from The Park and Ride to A4174 (Hicks Gate Roundabout).
"Congestion to traffic diverting away via several routes, Stockwood Lane passing the Golf Club, through Whitchurch and Hanham . Investigations are being carried out, reported a motorcycle and a car are involved."
