Series of negative reviews force Dublin pub to hit back at Guinness influencer

Following a series of negative reviews posted online, a well-known Dublin pub has hit back at a Guinness influencer.

The popular west Dublin spot, the Strawberry Hall, has been providing both tourists and locals with many a creamy pint of Guinness over the years.

However, the pub has revealed that when it came to one customer who was a pint reviewer a couple of months ago, they admit they served them a "bad pint".

The admin who runs the All Things Guinness page though has not been able to let the incident go, resharing and commenting on the pub's social media with complaints.

On Tuesday, the reviewer posted a picture from the pub of two pints served from there alongside the caption: "I wish my pint would have looked as nice as that on my last visit".

The review page even appeared to post a review that counteracted another positive one that had previously been posted three years ago, complaining about the bad pint. However, the pub decided to hit back following a social media backlash, writing a lengthy post.

They wrote: “There are many Guinness review/advisor type pages in circulation, and we believe they are a bit of craic and steer Guinness lovers in the right creamy direction.

“However, when @Allthingsguinness gave us a review six months ago and unfortunately for us it's a bad one - we take it on the chin.

“It's not our standard but the ball was dropped that day. It was not enough for this blogger to do the review and leave it at that. This particular blogger then went to @GuinnessAdvisor and found their extremely positive review of Strawberry Hall from 182 weeks beforehand to again throw in their negative voice about their experience in the comments.

“Now today, when we go about our daily business to communicate with our customers and post some creamy pint shots, here comes @Allthingsguinness back again to share our post following it with the one bad pint that they once got in the pub. We would like to know what the aim is here.”

Bosses of the pub asked to be left alone given that many of them are struggling across the country amid the cost of living crisis, adding that posting negative reviews doesn’t help anyone in the pub community.

They added: “Many pubs across the country are small independent businesses that support local jobs and the local economy. We do our part to provide our customers with a good experience and we are generally known as a great spot for Guinness.

“So, we didn't get it right one day; that is a shame, but for a page to go out of their way to damage our reputation and attempt to deter people from coming to our bar is outrageous. Our pint is €5, we pour it well and our team are sound.

"Pubs are struggling all across the country in the current climate, the community is out to support each other but listen, don't forget about this person’s bad pint they got one time six months ago, you won't forget as I'm sure we'll all be reminded again soon.”

However, a lot of people posted positive comments with one person posting: "I love that pub, due a visit soon. Anytime I visited the Guinness was great and staff very polite."

Another added: "I’m from Kildare and ever since I had a pint there before Christmas I do nothing but rave about the Guinness I had! Keep up the good work."

One more third said: "Fantastic pub and staff, we are not all perfect but every day we strive to be, keep doing what you're doing."

With another writing: "Fantastic family run pub. One of the best pints you'll get anywhere. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Would highly recommend it to everyone to visit, especially around Christmas. One of my favourite pubs."
