The Georgia Bulldogs have won six straight games in series history against the Tennessee Volunteers. Georgia’s most recent win came at home against No. 1 Tennessee.
The Bulldogs and Volunteers will no longer be members of the SEC East in 2024. However, the two teams will play in Athens, Georgia, in 2024.
Tennessee enters the 2023 edition of the Georgia-Tennessee game as the nation’s No. 19 team. Georgia is ranked No. 1. The Bulldogs have already clinched a trip to the SEC championship, but are focusing on moving to 11-0 this week.

Georgia leads the Tennessee Volunteers 27-23-2 in the series’ all-time history. Georgia has a winning record at Tennessee and overtook the series lead several years ago.
Overall, the series has been quite even outside of Tennessee’s dominant 1990s and Georgia’s recent six game win streak, which is the Bulldogs’ longest winning streak in series history.

Georgia dominated Tennessee on the road in 2019. The Bulldogs got a monster hit from cornerback Eric Stokes and returned the Tennessee fumble for a touchdown to put this one on ice.
2020: Georgia 44, Tennessee 21
Tennessee entered the game as the No. 12 team in the country. Georgia’s defense allowed only 214 yards and scored a second-half defensive touchdown. Stetson Bennett started the game and played well after an early mishap on a snap. Another year, another fumble return for a touchdown against the Volunteers.
2021: Georgia 41, Tennessee 17
Georgia running back James Cook finished the 2021 Tennessee game with 147 total yards and three total touchdowns. Georgia fell behind early, but roared back. This was Tennessee’s last defeat at Neyland Stadium.
2022: Georgia 27, Tennessee 13
Georgia football and quarterback Stetson Bennett raced out to a 24-6 halftime lead over No. 1 Tennessee. The Bulldogs sacked Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker numerous times and held the Tennessee passing attack in check.

Tennessee’s last win in series history against Georgia came in Athens during a wild finish. The Volunteers gave up a long passing touchdown to the Bulldogs, but went on to score a touchdown on a Hail Mary as time expired.
Coaching matchup
Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is 6-1 in series history against Tennessee. Smart’s only loss to the Volunteers came in 2016. Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is 0-2 against Georgia. Heupel has improved the Tennessee football program significantly during his time with the Volunteers.
