Serial rapist Zhenhao Zou 'collected souvenirs from victims' which could help police to trace them

Serial rapist Zhenhao Zou kept a grim collection of souvenirs from the women he is suspected of attacking including earrings, a lipstick, and fridge magnet from Seville.

The PhD student at University College London was convicted by a jury of 11 rapes against ten young women, after plying them with alcohol, drugged them, and having sex with them when they were unconscious or too intoxicated to stop him.

Zou, 27, was brought to justice thanks to the bravery of two of his victims who came forward to police to say they had been attacked at his London homes.

Detectives then uncovered a horrifying collection of 68 videos apparently showing Zou have sex with unconscious women.

Following the guilty verdicts, Scotland Yard has released images of a collection of items which Zou is believed to have collected from his victims.

Most of the women in the videos remain unidentified by police, who believed half were attacked in the UK and the other half were targeted by Zou when he was in his native China.

The alleged ‘souvenirs’ include a Tom and Jerry iPhone battery pack, a clip-on hair extension and a collection of different hair bobbles, a sock, a key on a fob, a ring, and a fridge magnet depicting a scene in Seville, Spain.

Officers also recovered from Zou’s apartment in Elephant and Castle, south London, a charging cable, a red lipstick, two sets of earrings, and a dress which he had stashed in a Fendi box.

In an appeal for witnesses and suspected victims to come forward, the Met wrote: “Zhenhao Zou has been convicted after raping a number of women within the UK and China.

“We believe there are victim-survivors who have not yet been identified and are appealing for them to come forward.

“If you or someone you know has been impacted, please contact officers via email: survivors@met.police.uk. ”

It added in a second poster, accompanied by Zou’s image and dating profile picture: “Due to the nature of Zou’s offending, some women may not know they have been a victim.

“We do not underestimate how distressing and difficult it may be to read or hear about his crimes following this verdict.

“We want to reassure anyone impacted that you are not alone. We ask victim-survivors to come forward to get the support and guidance they deserve, not only from the police, but also from independent charities and services.”

Police say they could not reveal the existence of the case against Zou, or carry out an appeal to try to find more victims, because they feared that could taint the trial.

Efforts are now being made by the Met to contact members of the Chinese community in London directly, and officers with specialist language skills have been drafted on to the team.

News reports of Zou’s trial at Inner London crown court has already prompted one women to come forward and make a statement to police.

It is understood news of the trial has also begun circulating on Chinese social media sites. In the trial, two women alleged they had been raped in London, while Zou was accused of similar offending against a further eight – with the incidents captured on camera. Those eight women have not yet been identified.

Police say Zou could be among Britain’s worst ever sex offenders, and are looking at the possibility of bringing further charges.
