A serial burglar handed himself in to police almost 30 years after his crimes. Stuart McDonald confessed to 18 crimes when he turned up at a police station.
Now the 51-year-old is starting a 16 month jail sentence after admitting the offences when he appeared at court. McDonald, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to a range of crimes which took place from 1993 to 2006.
DC Lisa Bacon, of Cambridgeshire Police, explained why he had decided to come clean. She said: “McDonald has made the decision to clear his offending past and get the support he needs to prevent him returning to a life of crime.”
At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (Mar 18), McDonald pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary. The judge took into account a further 16 offences that McDonald admitted to.
McDonald committed a burglary at a pub in St Neots, Cambs in 1994 when he broke in through a window and targeted fruit machines to steal £1,000 in cash. He also took some car keys. He also admitted burglary of a former Argos store in Huntingdon in 2006 when he took a bracelet from the counter.
