Barcelona are targeting Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon this summer.
It would be a sensational switch as the Spurs full back is a former Real Madrid player with a £27.5million buy-back clause for him to return to the Bernabeu. Barcelona are trying to sign a top left back this summer and have also been linked with Chelsea's Marcos Alonso who is also on their radar.
But Reguilon may also be available this summer as he has struggled to hold down a place under Antonio Conte despite Tottenham ’s Italian boss using wing backs. Ryan Sessegnon has established himself on the left and Matt Doherty was even starting ahead of Reguilon on occasion before injury.
Reguilon shone under former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho and became one of the most highly-rated left backs in the Premier League. But maybe his style does not fit under Conte’s strict tactical plan and the 25-year-old Spain international could be surplus to requirements.
Reguilon has made 67 appearances for Spurs over two seasons, including 22 Premier League starts this term but his chances have become fewer as it looks increasingly unlikely he will leave. A potential deal for Reguilon could help raise funds for Tottenham to help them rebuild this summer which could be crucial if they want to keep Conte.
Reguilon missed Tottenham’s last game, the 1-1 draw at Liverpool on Saturday, through injury and also fears he is not part of Conte’s long term plans.
Former Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Conte’s future at White Hart Lane is also far from certain even though he is contracted for next season. Tottenham know they will have to spend and invest to keep Conte happy and at the club this summer and may have to offload to balance the books and selling Reguilon with a big club interested may make sense.
