Sergio Aguero makes Lionel Messi transfer claim amid Barcelona and Inter Miami transfer links

Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero believes there is a 50 per cent chance of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona before retiring.

A move back to the Catalan capital could come this summer with the World Cup winner out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain in the summer. There is an option for the club and Messi to extend the deal for a further season but that has yet to be agreed.

The Argentina international, who scored his 800th career goal during an friendly against Panama on Thursday, is said to have several suitors should he again become a free agent at the end of this season. Barcelona are the only reported European destination other than staying in Paris. Links with Inter Miami in the United States and Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal persist.

Aguero, a close friend of Messi's, has offered his opinion on the forward's future while speaking with Gerard Pique, his former teammate in Catalonia, during a Twitch stream. “I think Leo Messi should retire at Barca. Barcelona is his home, and he should finish his career there. I feel there is a 50 per cent chance that he will return.”

The Catalan club have continued to talk up the prospect of Messi returning throughout this season. Vice president Eduard Romeu said in September that his homecoming would be financially feasible on a free transfer, while president Joan Laporta continually speaks about the Argentine's chapter not being closed in Barcelona.
