Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero says Erling Haaland must be in contention to win the Ballon d'Or if the Blues win the Champions League.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed an astonishing season with City since arriving last summer from Borussia Dortmund. His 36 strikes in the Premier League meant he eclipsed the record of Alan Shearer and Andy Cole for the most goals in a single season.
Further goals in other competitions mean his record for the campaign stands at 52 so far and that tally could be added to after tonight's match vs Inter Milan. Speaking to Stake.com, Aguero explained how the Norwegian is just a European trophy away from being in contention to win the Ballon d'Or.
"If that happens [City winning the Champions League], he will surely be among the candidates and with a chance of winning it," he said. "We know that winning the Champions League is very important when choosing the Ballon d'Or."

Since arriving in 2016, the Champions League has been the one trophy Guardiola has failed to win. The closest he came was in 2021 when the Blues reached the final only to be beaten by Chelsea in Porto.
