Sergio Aguero gives honest opinion on ex-teammate Gabriel Jesus and reveals Arsenal fears

Sergio Aguero has waxed lyrical over former Manchester City teammate Gabriel Jesus after his stellar start to life at Arsenal - but fears for the Gunners over the course of the whole season.

The Gunners parted ways with £45million to bring the Brazilian to the Emirates in the summer and it has since proved an inspired bit of business as Jesus has offered some much-needed life to what was a faltering front-line last season. The ex-Etihad favourite has five league goals to his name from the opening nine this term.

Jesus appears to be thriving now he is out of the shadow of Aguero like he was at City, where he failed to ever truly dislodge the Argentine as first-choice striker for a sustained period of time. That's not to suggest there is any ill feeling between the two. In fact, Aguero has heaped praise on his old colleague.

Speaking to Stake.com, the five-time Premier League winner and City legend said: "Gabriel has always had good respect, he's truly a complete player. Now, he's been able to secure a place among the main squad for Arsenal, and his team has many young players with a hunger for glory.

"[Mikel] Arteta has really been able to imbue it with his style. This has all set up Gabriel to be a key piece of the team, and I'm very happy for it."

Jesus has played a starring role in Arsenal's fantastic early season form, with the Gunners sitting top of the Premier League table - one point ahead of his old team as Pep Guardiola's City breathe down their necks.

The atmosphere at the Emirates is currently operating at a noise level it hasn't reached previously, with morale around the place sky-high as a result of Arsenal's faultless form. Sunday's 3-2 win over Liverpool sent out quite the statement, considering for so long the Gunners have failed to lay a glove on Jurgen Klopp's side.

Despite this, Aguero still harbours some fears for Arsenal over the course of the whole season due to the World Cup interrupting the Premier League schedule from November until late December.

"We're on the first stage of a Premier League that will be different from many others – by and large because we'll have a World Cup in the middle of it. That makes it harder to foresee how it'll turn out," Aguero explained.

"Consistency is the name of the game to win the title and the missing piece is knowing in what condition each player will rejoin their clubs after the World Cup.

"Arsenal will probably be one of those teams but surely not the only one."

The Gunners have a Brazilian contingent of three players - all of whom are automatic starters in the eyes of Arteta in Jesus, Gabriel Magalhaes, and Gabriel Martinelli.

Should they all be selected for the Selecao, as well as Aaron Ramsdale and Bukayo Saka being on Three Lions duty while Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka line-up for Ghana and Switzerland respectively and that's near enough Arsenal's entire 11 all at risk of injury while away with their national teams.
