Serge Gnabry pursuit takes new twist as Arsenal told to beat Chelsea to high-profile transfer

Arsenal have wasted no time in the transfer market ahead of the 2022-23 campaign with Mikel Arteta eager to bolster his squad for the new season.

Three new faces have already arrived at the Emirates in the form of winger Marquinhos, midfielder Fabio Vieira and goalkeeper Matt Turner and more are expected yet. Gabriel Jesus' transfer from Manchester City has reportedly been completed, with only the official announcement to come.

But still they are unlikely to be finished just yet. With that in mind, football.london takes you through the latest transfer rumours at Arsenal, including arrivals and potential departures.

Serge Gnabry rivalry

Arsenal remain interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Serge Gnabry this summer as Mikel Arteta continues his summer overhaul. Gabriel Jesus is set to complete his move in the coming days but Gnabry remains a target.

However, that pursuit could be in danger as the Daily Star reports that Manchester United have entered the race for the 26-year-old. It comes as the Red Devils are said to have been told that Cristiano Ronaldo wishes to leave the club if the right offer is received.

Arsenal told to sign Ronaldo

One of the biggest moves of this summer could well involve Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portuguese requested to leave Old Trafford. Chelsea are thought to be interested in doing a deal after Todd Boehly discussed the forward in a meeting with agent Jorge Mendes.

However, Arsenal fan Piers Morgan has urged Ronaldo to make the move to the Emirates, tweeting a picture of himself with the striker and a Gunners shirt with his name on the back. The caption for the tweet simply said: “It’s time @Cristiano #afc.”

Nicolas Pepe problem

While all the excitement swirls around new signings at the Emirates, departures are still on the cards. Winger Nicolas Pepe is one name who the Gunners are open to selling after the Ivory Coast international tumbled down Mikel Arteta's pecking order.

However, a permanent move away for Pepe may be less likely as PA reports, via the Sun, that the player’s £140,000-a-week salary is proving to be a problem for potential interested parties, while other claims suggest Arsenal have put too high of an asking price on the winger. As a result, a loan move may be more likely, with reports suggesting that there is interest from La Liga clubs.
