Serena Williams Returns To U.S. Open As Spectator

Welcome back to the U.S. Open, where tennis legend Serena Williams made a notable appearance at Flushing Meadows. Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, returned to the tournament as a spectator, showcasing a nostalgic denim skirt reminiscent of her 2004 playing days.

Williams' last competitive outing at the U.S. Open was in 2022, where she reached the third round before bowing out to Ajla Tomljanovic. While Williams refrained from officially announcing her retirement, she described her departure from professional tennis as an 'evolution' towards other endeavors.

Since her hiatus from the court, Williams has been actively engaged in various pursuits, including business ventures, a book deal, a documentary series airing on ESPN, and hosting the ESPYS in July. Additionally, she welcomed her second daughter a year ago.

During her illustrious career, the 42-year-old American claimed six U.S. Open singles titles, a record she shares with Chris Evert. At this year's tournament, Williams was seen enjoying the action from a suite in Arthur Ashe Stadium, witnessing top-ranked player Jannik Sinner secure a straight-set victory in the third round.

Williams also took the opportunity to explore the grounds, catching American Tommy Paul's triumph at Louis Armstrong Stadium and engaging in a conversation with current women's No. 1, Iga Swiatek, who had a match scheduled for the evening.

Following her own victory to advance to the fourth round, Williams' close friend, former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, humorously expressed disappointment at not spotting Williams in the spectator seats, playfully remarking that she would reach out to her about missing the match.

Williams' presence at the U.S. Open added a touch of nostalgia and excitement for fans, reaffirming her enduring influence on the sport and her enduring connection to the tournament.
