Sepp van den Berg makes Liverpool promise ahead of loan return

Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg says the club will see a 'different player' when he returns to Merseyside at the end of the season.

The Dutchman joined Preston North End on loan in February 2021 and has made over 60 senior appearances in his time with the Championship club. He has scored two goals in that time.

The 20-year-old joined Liverpool from Dutch side PEC Zwolle in 2019, but has made just four appearances under Jurgen Klopp so far. He's impressed in the second tier of English football and he says his time at Deepdale has made a difference.

"When I came to Liverpool I was 17 and I'm 20 now so it has been a hell of a few years," Van den Berg told LancsLive. "But yeah, of course they are going to see a different player [to the one that left].

"I think I have played like 60-odd Championship games so I have the game time in me now. That is a difference as well, so yeah, it's going to be a different me when I go back in the summer, definitely.

"I have always said it, I've really enjoyed my time here (at Preston) - it's been unbelievable and I didn't expect it to be this good to be fair. It's been one-year-and-a-half and I just love the club, love the fans, so it has been really good."

Preston sit mid-table in the Championship, level on 58 points with Stoke City. Van den Berg has scored once this season in the league, with a goal in their 3-1 win over Swansea back in August.

His other goal came in the second round of the Carabao Cup away at Morecambe. They went on to face Liverpool in fourth round and the young defender was part of the team beaten 2-0 at home to the Reds.
