Senior royals looked 'amused' at sermon on Prince Harry's wedding day, documentary claims

Senior royals were "amused" by the bishop's sermon at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding day, a documentary has claimed.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Queen were said to be "moved" by the sermon.

Episode five of Inside the House of Windsor, titled Heirs and Spares, included footage from the Sussex's wedding day in May 2018.

Footage in the episode, which streams on ITVX on Thursday, showed Bishop Michael Curry's passionate and powerful sermon being delivered to guests at St George's Chapel in Windsor and broadcast to millions worldwide.

In front of an audience of millions around the world Rev Michael Curry delivered a powerful and moving sermon on the power of love for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

The sermon by the presiding bishop of the American Episcopal Church, was entitled "The Power of Love" and was a meditation on love for individuals, family and the world.

The voiceover says: "When Harry and Meghan marry, they throw a different kind of celebration. It's intended to reshape what a royal wedding can be.

"The main event of the service is a black preacher from Chicago, with a reputation not only as an extraordinary orator but also as a humanitarian."

It goes on to say how Harry, Meghan and Queen appeared "moved" by the sermon.

It adds: "It's a contrast with other members of the royal family, who seem amused by it."

Curry, the first black head of the Episcopal Church in the United States, started by quoting civil rights hero Dr Martin Luther King and powered on citing spirituals, medieval poetry and the experiences of slaves in the American South.

"We're going to sit down, we gotta get y'all married!" he told Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and their wedding guests.

By the end, he was referring to Harry and Meghan as "my brother, my sister," and telling them "God love you, God bless you"

Later he said: "Two young people fell in love and we all showed up."

Giving an address titled The Power of Love at the service, the Chicago native opened his energetic speech with the words of Martin Luther King, a devout Christian whose faith shaped his struggle against racial injustice in the US, hailing his views on love as "right".

"We must discover the power of love, the redemptive power of love. And when we discover that, we will be able to make this old world a new world. Love is the only way," Bishop Curry quoted.
