Senior IAS TV Somanathan appointed as Cabinet Secretary

New Delhi: Senior IAS TV Somanathan appointed as Cabinet Secretary. At present, he is the Finance Secretary of India.

Rajiv Gauba did not get another extension on the post of Cabinet Secretary. 

Rajiv Gauba is serving as Cabinet Secretary since 2019.

Rajiv Gauba is 1982-batch IAS officer of the Jharkhand cadre.

Somanathan played major role in India bureaucracy. He also worked in the Prime Minister's Office from April 2015 to August 2017.

TV Somanathan Appointments

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of TV Somanathan, IAS as Cabinet Secretary with a tenure of two years from 30.08.2024.

Senior IAS Dr Somanathan holds a Ph.D. in economics from Calcutta University an  Executive Development Program diploma from Harvard Business School, Master of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from Panjab University.

He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Dr Somanathan also was a Young Professional for the World Bank Group in 1996. 

He has earlier worked in a variety of senior positions in the Government of Tamil Nadu state, including Deputy Secretary (Budget), Joint Vigilance Commissioner, Executive Director Metrowater, Secretary to Chief Minister, and Additional Chief Secretary & Commissioner of Commercial Taxes.

As founder MD of CMRL, he was responsible for achieving financial closure and awarding the initial tenders for implementing the Rs.14,600 crore Chennai Metro Rail Project.

In 2011 his services were sought by the World Bank and he served as Director from 2011 to 2015.
