Senior FBI special agent Brian Driscoll has been appointed as acting director of the FBI, as per an email sent to employees. Acting Attorney General James McHenry has also selected Robert Kissane, special agent in charge for counterterrorism in New York, to serve as acting deputy director of the FBI. This decision comes in the wake of FBI Director Christopher Wray's resignation and the subsequent retirement of FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate.
President Donald Trump has put forth Kash Patel as the nominee for FBI director, pending confirmation. In the interim, Driscoll and Kissane are at the helm of the bureau. Driscoll, who was recently named as the special agent in charge of the Newark Field Office, expressed the intention to work closely with the current FBI leadership team and the transition team at the Department of Justice to ensure a smooth transition.
Driscoll emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the Bureau's essential work and serving the American people. The goal during this transitional period is to uphold the FBI's mission and responsibilities without disruption.
