Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia raised concerns on Tuesday regarding the allegations against Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump's defense pick. Kaine argued that the numerous accusations should disqualify Hegseth from the position.
Kaine specifically questioned whether Hegseth would uphold the oath of office if confirmed, citing his history of cheating in previous marriages. The senator also highlighted Hegseth's character, referencing an extramarital affair with a Fox News producer that led to the birth of a child. Additionally, Kaine pointed out that Hegseth had admitted to a consensual encounter with a woman in California in October 2017, shortly after the child's birth. This woman later accused Hegseth of sexual assault.
Despite the allegations, Hegseth vehemently denied all claims and expressed skepticism about their credibility, dismissing them as 'anonymous.'
Senator Kaine cautioned Hegseth against downplaying the seriousness of the accusations, emphasizing that there were records with names attached to each allegation, including that of Hegseth's own mother.
